Massage and Bodywork Q & A
What is Myofascial Release?
Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures can create myofascial restrictions, which can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain-sensitive structures that may not show up in many standard tests, such as x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, or electromyography.
Myofascial release is a hands-on technique that involves applying gentle, sustained pressure to the myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion.
What is Soft tissue mobilization?
Soft tissue mobilization is a therapeutic massage technique that aims to improve range of motion, decrease swelling and edema, reduce pain, and restore or optimize muscle function.
Paula prefers to use slow, fluid, and intuitive strokes that allow her not only to feel where the body is restricted but also to release these restrictions at the body’s desired pace, without unnecessary discomfort or pain.
