The Benefits of Infrared Sauna Therapy

Infrared Sauna Therapy Room

Cell Health

Near infrared light therapy stimulates the circulatory system and more fully oxygenates the body’s cells. Better blood circulation means more toxins flow from the cellular level to the skin’s surface to improve cell health, aid in muscle recovery and strengthen the immune system.

Pain Relief

Infrared sauna heat penetrates tissue, joints and muscles to relieve anything from minor aches and pains to chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia. Pain management professionals incorporate infrared sauna heat therapy into treatment plans to decrease pain and muscle spasms and to speed up recovery time.

Weight Loss

Studies have shown that benefits of an infrared sauna session can burn upwards of 600 calories while you relax! As the body works to cool itself, there is a substantial increase in heart rate, cardiac output and metabolic rate, causing the body to burn more calories.

Blood Pressure

The infrared sauna induces a deep sweat to make the heart pump faster, which in turn increases blood flow, lowers blood pressure and helps circulation. Scientific evidence shows using an infrared sauna a couple of times a week lowers blood pressure.

Relaxation

Unlike traditional saunas which operate at extremely harsh temperatures, infrared is a gentle, soothing and therapeutic heat that promotes relaxation and improved sleep. Infrared sauna benefits include therapy that helps you relax while receiving an invigorating deep-tissue sweat, leaving you fully refreshed after each session.

Detoxification

Sweating is good for you. It is the body’s safe and natural way to heal and stay healthy. Detoxification happens by heating the body directly, causing a rise in core temperature. This results in a deep, detoxifying sweat at the cellular level, where toxins reside.

Circulation

Heating the muscles with infrared rays produces an increase in blood flow similar to that seen during exercise. Regular infrared sauna use – especially in the mid-infrared range – can significantly stimulate blood flow up to twice the normal rate.

Natural Antiaging

The near infrared wavelengths are the most effective wavelengths for healing the epidermis and dermis layers of the skin. Near infrared treatments stimulate collagen production to reduce wrinkles and improve overall skin tone. Far infrared wavelengths target deeper down, removing toxins that can have a negative impact on your skin.

Wound Healing

Scientific research has concluded that near infrared therapy greatly enhances the skin’s healing process by promoting faster cell regeneration and human tissue growth. Human cell growth increases to repair wounds and prevent infection.

What To Expect From An Infrared Sauna Session

After checking in at our front desk, you will be guided to our private infrared sauna room. Please wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes, and arrive a few minutes before your session.

Inside the infrared sauna room, you will find towels and a robe for your comfort and use. For 30-minute sessions, we recommend spending 20 minutes in the sauna and for 45-minute sessions, we recommend spending 30-40 minutes in the sauna. This will allow you enough time to get changed, drink some water, and cool off afterwards.

The sauna allows you to set your own temperature level based on your preference. Sauna temperature is typically set to 110 degrees at the start of a session. If you prefer a different setting, please notify staff in advance.

Music is available with Bluetooth, USB or radio.

You’ll sweat deeply, enjoy quiet and relaxation, and leave feeling refreshed and energized!

Questions/Sauna Usage Etiquette

What should I wear in the infrared sauna?
We suggest wearing loose clothes to your sauna session, or at least bringing a change of them to wear afterwards. Towels are provided – one to sit on and one to wear. Some guests choose to wear a towel, a bathing suit, or their undergarments in the sauna. We also provide a robe, which you can wear in the sauna if that works for your body. A laundry hamper is provided for used towels and robes when you are done with your session. Also, we do not recommend applying lotion or oil to your body before your sauna session.
What can I bring into the sauna?
We encourage you to bring water or drink the water provided — hydration is essential! Food or shoes are not allowed in the sauna. We advise you not to bring your phone into the sauna as it may get damaged from the heat.
How much should I expect to sweat?
How much you sweat depends on your individual body. The sweat you produce from infrared is usually oilier and less watery than other sweating experiences. This is due to the high concentration of toxins in the sweat you are expelling. Be aware that you may not sweat much in your first few sessions and that it is essential to stay hydrated. Drink water before and after your session.
How often should I come and how long till I see the results?
Most clients fully experience infrared sauna benefits by coming for sessions at least two times a week. Immediately after a sauna session you may feel refreshed and see a glow in your skin, similar to after a great workout. It may take a few sessions before the body acclimates and begins to deeply detox and see all the benefits related to infrared light therapy.
Is there an age limit and can children use the sauna?
You must be 18 years of age and older.
Can I use the IR sauna if I'm pregnant or nursing?
Pregnant women are not allowed in the sauna. Increasing body temperature above 100 degrees can increase risk of complications in pregnant women.

Studies have shown that far-infrared rays have been shown to be a safe and effective way to increase lactation in breastfeeding mothers. Please consult with your physician.

Can two people share an infrared sauna during a session?
Our sauna is a two-person sized sauna, in order to give our guests a comfortable experience. Although we recommend one-person sauna sessions, you may reserve a sauna session with a significant other or friend.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you wish to cancel your session, we ask that you call or cancel 24 hours before your booked appointment. Sessions cancelled within 24 hours will be credited to the account and those after the deadline or no-shows will be billed for the full session.

If you are running late, we ask that you call the front desk to let us know. If you don’t call the front desk and are more than 10 minutes late for a 25-minute session or more than 15 minutes late for a 55 minute session, the session may be forfeited.

General Information About Infrared Saunas

What is the difference between a traditional sauna and an infrared sauna?
Infrared heats the body with light, creating an atmosphere of 120-140 degrees F and raising your core temperature 2-3 degrees. Traditional saunas heat the air temperature to 180 degrees or above, creating a less sustainable, less comfortable environment to sit in. Studies testing and comparing the sweat expelled in infrared and traditional saunas have shown that infrared is seven times more effective at expelling toxins, with a total of 20% of all sweat being heavy metals and environmental toxins.
How does infrared therapy benefit people with heart conditions, high blood pressure, and cardiac disease?
People with heart conditions, high blood pressure or cardiac disease are not advised to use the sauna. Please check with your doctor before using the sauna. If you have these conditions, we may request a doctors note before we allow use of the sauna.

How does infrared therapy help people with chronic pain and arthritis?
Some studies show that people suffering with chronic pain, adding infrared therapy to a combination of exercise, cognitive behavioral therapy and rehab had better reduction in pain. Infrared therapy may also help reduce stiffness, pain and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. Other studies show that four weeks of infrared therapy helped to improve depression symptoms, mood, fatigue and performance.
How does infrared therapy benefit people with other chronic illnesses?
We recommend talking to your doctor about your condition and needs. You can also check out the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health for more literature on infrared therapy.
How long are the sauna sessions?
Your session represents the duration of time that you have booked the sauna room for, typically, in a 30-minute session, you can use the sauna for 20 minutes and 30-40 minutes for the 45-minute session. This allows for time for getting dressed, refreshed and hydrated. If you run over your allotted session time you may be subject to an additional cost of $2.50 per minute.
